Personal Development

‘Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it’  Maya Angelou

Curriculum Principles

The personal development curriculum will ensure that all students, regardless of background, receive the knowledge and guidance tolead safe and healthy lives, make informed decisions abouttheir careerandbe advocates forequality.

Curriculum Features

At all Key Stages, students study five key strands at the same time. The key strands are health, wellbeing and personal safety; relationships and sex education; careers; citizenship and ready for modern society. Blocking these strands into half terms across the school means that there can be alignment of themes across personal development, assembly and form time programmes. It also ensures there is interleaving of topics when students progress through each year group. Pupils have regular opportunities to reflect on and identify what they have learned and what they need to learn next.  Although Personal Development is not assessed in the same way as most other subjects, we recognise and evidence progress and attainment in our Personal Development programme by identifying understanding, skills and attributes.

Career Relevance

Although there are few careers directly linked to Personal Development, the Rossett Personal Development programme ensures the development of core skills required for future careers. Throughout our schemes of learning, students will develop their oracy, teamwork, problem solving skills. From making responsible decisions to succeeding in their first job, the Personal Development programme helps pupils manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up. Pupils agree that PD education is a vital part of their preparation for life.

Personal development at Rossett will ensure that all students, regardless of background, receive the knowledge and guidance they need to lead safe and healthy lives; make informed decisions about their career; and be advocates for equality.

We believe our students have the right to an holistic education that teaches them how to live happy, healthy, and safe lives.    We prioritise the personal development of our students because we know the challenges they will encounter throughout their adolescence and into adulthood.  We have a duty to help our students navigate the rapidly changing world around them and equip them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their personal wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.
